Educational Events Programme 1999

There are many other ways to use these exhibitions apart from the ideas outlined in the Events Programme below.
We welcome visits from all age groups and are keen that the exhibitions should be used in any manner which is appropriate to the topic that the class is studying.
If we can be of any assistance, please give us a ring.

6 November to 16 January

SUDBURY'S CHOICE
Gainsborough's House, like most museums, is able to exhibit permanently only a small proportion of its collection. For this exhibition no holds are barred: a group of townspeople have been invited to select their favourite items and explain their choice. The show will contain some surprises: Gainsboroughs and anonymous works, grand and modest pieces, drawing and figurines: maybe even a fountain! (More details...)
We invite you to bring your school and make your own choices from our exhibition; individual choice, class choice, school choice.
This process should be a good exercise in decision making and justifying those decisions. Maybe the class could decide on the pieces from our exhibition that they would choose for their own exhibition, make drawings of these pieces, write down their reasons for their choice and the resulting piece of class collaboration would be exhibited of the Gainsborough's House noticeboard for all to see.

6 November to 16 January

CHRISTMAS GIFT
Jewellery, ceramics, textiles and other artefacts by selected artists and designer-makers from all over the country provide this delightful annual Christmas feast for the eye. (More details...)
As in previous years we are inviting sixth form groups interested in the business side of the craft and fashion industry to come and her about it first hand from one of our exhibitors. These talks have proved extremely popular and bridge the gap between business and the arts.
