Abel Moysey

Portrait of Abel Moysey MP (1743-1831) c.1771

Abel Moysey was the son of a doctor.

In those days you had to pay when you went to see the doctor.

It is said that Thomas Gainsborough painted this picture instead of paying money to the doctor.

Abel Moysey was a Member of Parliament.

ABEL MOYSEY'S CLOTHES (look at the portrait on the wall)

He is probably wearing a wig on his head.

He has a cravat around his neck.

He is wearing a long coat with a collar on it.

Underneath this he has a waistcoat which is done up with lots of buttons.

Instead of trousers he is wearing breeches down to his knees.

These have buttons down the side (How many buttons?) and a small gold coloured buckle just below his knee (this looks a bit like a button).

He has white silk stockings on the lower part of his legs.
His shoes have gold coloured buckles on them.

He is holding a stick. I think it made him feel more important!
Follow the lines from the outline picture below to the boxes, and put in the right words.

I have done the first one for you.
Look at the picture on the wall too.
