Come and Celebrate ‘Garlanding Gainsborough’

May 13, 2017 @ 11:00 am4:00 pm

Join us on Saturday 13 May at Gainsborough’s House as we celebrate the birth of Thomas Gainsborough. With free entry to the House, guided tours on the hour every hour from 11.0am-3.00pm, a chance for children to dress up in 18th century costume and craft activities for children, Garlanding Gainsborough is a great day out for all the family.   Relax in our beautiful garden to the special sound of a Piper. Refreshments will be served in our pop-up café in the Hills Room where we will serve a selection of delicious teas and cakes.

Thomas Gainsborough RA, was born in Sudbury in May 1727.  In honour of the town’s most famous son, his fine statue on the Market Hill will be garlanded with flowers. The celebrations will be led by the Deputy Mayor of Sudbury’ Sue Ayres, and the Director of Gainsborough’s House, Mark Bills.  A Piper will then lead the way from the statue down to his birthplace, Gainsborough’s House. Talks by Gainsborough’s House staff on specific paintings will take place on the hour in the galleries.

Garlanding Gainsborough will be from 11am until 4pm.   There will be something for everyone. Entrance is free, including admission to Gainsborough’s House.
