16, 23, 30 November and 7 December 2018, 10.30am–12.30pm

This series of talks by art historian and former Tate curator Richard Humphreys looks in detail at eight masterpieces from the great age of Romantic and Victorian art.

As in his previous series looking at works by artists from Sickert to Bacon, Richard will also consider his chosen works in relation to the artists’ entire careers and their wider historical context.

The works discussed are by John Constable, J.M.W Turner, Sir Edwin Landseer, Sir John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt, William Dyce, William Frith and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. They include Constable’s ‘The Leaping Horse’ about which Richard has recently published a book for the Royal Academy.
