Wood Engraving with Peter Brown

This course provides a sound introduction to wood engraving and is most suitable for those with some drawing experience. There is no need to have prior knowledge of printmaking. First look at specialist tools, consider mark making and how to create tones, then make a tonal sampler before engraving on to wood and printing. Every step is explained with demonstrations, group discussions and one-to-one guidance. If you have experience of wood engraving and wish to progress a current piece, Peter will be delighted to assist.

Since post-graduate studies at St Martins, Peter works as an illustrator and printmaker, specialising in wood engraving and Japanese woodblock. He runs workshops at St Martins, Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Sidney Nolan Trust and for 25 years has illustrated a weekly birdlife column for The Times.
