National Lottery Players: Free Entry to the House in December

TNL_HLFE_PANTONEFor the first three weekends this December National Lottery players can visit
Gainsborough’s House for free.

All you have to do is show us your National Lottery ticket and you can enjoy a trip
around the historic house where Thomas Gainsborough, the famous artist, lived. See
the four-hundred-year-old Mulberry tree, experience his paintings and drawings in his
childhood home and see the latest exhibition, French Drawing from the Time of
Gainsborough.

A lot of the funding that goes into Gainsborough’s House is available because of
people who play the National Lottery. Money from every pound goes into projects
like this and Gainsborough’s House would like to thank those players by opening its
doors free to them in the first three weekends of this December.

Gainsborough’s House received Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) support and
earmarked funding of £4.73 million, including a development grant of £280,700,
towards a £7.5 million project to transform the House into a national centre and one of
the region’s leading heritage museum and galleries.

Robyn Llewellyn, Head of HLF East of England, said: “Every penny of our
investment into projects saving, sharing and celebrating our shared heritage is made
possible by people who play The National Lottery. So it’s absolutely brilliant to see
Gainsborough’s House saying a huge thank you!”

“Everyone who buys a National Lottery ticket benefits projects like this. This project
shares the art, history and stories of Gainsborough with even more people, engaging
volunteers and creating opportunities for local people.”

Gainsborough’s House is one of the few birthplace museums to feature the work of a
single artist, and shows more of the artist’s work than any other gallery in the world.
Now, thanks to National Lottery players, ‘Reviving an Artist’s Birthplace: A National
Centre for Gainsborough’ will enable Gainsborough’s House to engage and inspire a
larger and more diverse range of visitors, secure the future of this nationally
significant heritage and spearhead the regeneration of a market town.

Free entry to the House will be given to anyone who presents a ticket for any National
Lottery draw or National Lottery Scratchcard.
